As a kid, obsessed with the pioneering work of John Dykstra and his associates on A New Hope, I decided to stop doing 2D animation on my second-hand Bauer super-8 camera and move into special effects, and - I have just realised - came up with the same awful solution to spaceship movement that Lucas had proposed to a (justly) sceptical fledgling ILM three or four years earlier: just dress up in black against a black backdrop and fly the models around on black sticks.

For those who have never seen the "Star Wars Holiday Special", it was a two-hour variety show that many feel suffered from over-extended scenes, kitschy dialog, and cheesy special effects. Airing just once on the night of November 17, 1978, it definitely had a few wince-worthy moments -- Wookiee grandpa "Itchy" fawning over the seductive crooning of singer Diahann Carol; a sappy Han Solo getting all mushy over Chewbacca's wife and kid; and the chef d'oeuvre -- Princess Leia singing "The Life Day Song" to the strains of the Star Wars theme.

To celebrate our 9th Anniversary, I have created a new section called Star Wars Reviews in the Galactic Voyage Movies section. Steven Sullivan from Sidney-New South Whales, Australia has joined our Staff and graciously agreed to provide videos for this new section. The Emperor, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and the rest of everyone's favorite Star Wars characters are back with more laughs and plenty of inside hardcore fan details in Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II. The special airs this Sunday, Nov. 16 on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim at 11:30 PM.
